Duckcrow Hypermarket is a parody of a catalogue that skewers Taiwanese politics with colorful and absurd digital collage. By altering appropriated imagery and creating fictional products such as the “Good Dog Collection” T-Shirt and the “Soulmate” sex toy, Duckcrow comments on “how the media manipulates public ideology and transmits messages” through visual and commercial means. Taiwanese leaders Tsai Ing-wen and Ma Ying-jeou are depicted wearing Duckcrow merchandise, with Snapchat filters giving them dog ears and noses; “They look so happy, like dogs!” the text on one such page exclaims. Ironic slogans (“Soon Open in Gay Taiwan” and “Special Price for Sad Taiwanese”) poke fun at consumerist language as well as sheds light on the culture affected by it.
